a)
- The interpreter asked for notes to be sent beforehand, but the speaker did not answer and did not send the notes.
- The speaker switched between Russian and Turkish and the audience could not understand him.
- The interpreter could not understand the speaker half the time.
b)
- I was concerned because he hadn't provided me with any notes beforehand
- I had told him it would be useful if I could have the notes for his talk in case of any problems.
- The organisers asked him to submit his slides ahead of time, but he didn't acknowledge the requests.

- He was speaking about whether there could be a global blackout next year.
