Work in pairs and say what the difference in meaning is between each pair of words / phrases from the box.
Answer
- advertising = to make a product known to the people in order to sell it
- marketing = planning how best to advertise a product in order to maximise sales
- commercial break = a short break for advertising during programmes on TV or radio
- target market = the audience the advertising is aimed at
- brand = label (e.g. Levi's and Lee Cooper are both brands of jeans)
- hype = positive media and public attention
- slogan = a catchy phrase which goes with an ad
- logo = an image associated with a brand
- advertisement = a piece of advertising on TV or on a billboard
- trailer = an advert for a film which includes short clips in order to encourage people to go to see it in the cinema
