  • advertising = to make a product known to the people in order to sell it
  • marketing = planning how best to advertise a product in order to maximise sales
  • commercial break = a short break for advertising during programmes on TV or radio
  • target market = the audience the advertising is aimed at
  • brand = label (e.g. Levi's and Lee Cooper are both brands of jeans)
  • hype = positive media and public attention
  • slogan = a catchy phrase which goes with an ad
  • logo = an image associated with a brand
  • advertisement = a piece of advertising on TV or on a billboard
  • trailer = an advert for a film which includes short clips in order to encourage people to go to see it in the cinema
