  1. Metropolitan Police officers have become a symbol of London.
  2. The Metropolitan Police was founded by Sir Robert Peel in 1829.
  3. The objectives were to prevent and investigate crimes, as well as arrest criminals.
  4. The first officers, or "peelers," worked tirelessly, with minimal time off and no voting rights.
  5. The initial uniform was chosen to distinguish officers from soldiers, with dark blue coats and trousers to look like ordinary citizens.
  6. Modern police officers, or "bobbies," wear formal jackets, carry radios, Tasers, and protective gear.
  7. The Met moved to New Scotland Yard in November 2016.
  8. Scotland Yard's name originates from the Met's original location on Great Scotland Yard street.
