- a: A woman is on a train, trying to talk to her colleague Thomas in his office. They can’t hear each other very well because of the bad mobile phone connection on the train.
- c: Two university students are sitting at the back of a lecture theatre. The female student is having problems following the lecture. This may be because of her language proficiency, the lecturer’s speed of delivery and the complexity of the lecture.
- b: Two friends are at a rock concert. They can’t hear each other because the concert is very noisy
