a)
- eager; pleased
- nervous; awkward
- excited; disappointed
- anxious; happy
b)
- Tess → She means there's no need to be nervous about being carried by Angel.
- Angel → He's commenting on the fact that Retty is much smaller and lighter than Marian.
- Izzy → She wants to kiss Angel and asks Tess if she'd mind (because Tess is his 'favourite').
- Angel → He's carried the other three women just so he can spend a few moments with Tess.
- Angel → He means that he didn't expect to have this moment with Tess, not that he didn't expect the road to flood (as Tess suggests).
c)
Escapism → many people are fascinated by seeing how people lived in an apparently simpler and less stressful world, with wide divisions between gender roles and rich / poor, but without modern conveniences, technical and medical advances, etc. For many, the fascination is the costumes themselves → how attractive they make people look, how difficult they'd be to wear, etc.
