  3. What is life like at Aquarius?
  4. Is it difficult there? Why?
  5. How is Aquarius used?

Answer

  1. Aquarius is a metal submarine strcture anchored to the seabed about 20 metres beneath the surface.
  2. Aquanauts that are marine biologists.
  3. Living and working at the Aquarius isn't easy.
  4. Yes. The food is similar to what astronauts have and has to be sent down in special pots. Food cans get squeezed and distorted and fizzy drinks simply lose their fizz. The toilet is outside and to get there they have to swim, where they must stand up in it so that they can breathe from a pocket of air at the top of the structure.
  5. Aquarius is mostly used to study coral and other machine life. NASA has also used it to train its astronauts to get used to living in isolated and extreme conditions.
