Ming Liang Lu’s current work is important to the children in Harlem because: 

  1. it helps them understand more about Chinese art
  2. it encourages involvement 
  3. i t gives them first-hand experience of someone from a different background and thus (and this is implied) helps them understand their own ethnicity and culture too
  4. it hopefully makes them more tolerant of others, and less ignorant of what others bring to the city and the country 
  5. it may open up new worlds for them in the future.
