Answer

  • a bailoutbanks: the government sometimes provides banks with a bailout if they’re struggling
  • chargesbanks: there are charges every time you go over your overdraft limit; could also be life-changing event, if the police bring charges against you
  • currencybanks: you can buy or sell currency via banks
  • the jackpotgambling: a large sum of money you can win on a game
  • in labourlife-changing events: women go into labour / are in labour before giving birth
  • oddsgambling: the odds are the chances of a thing happening. If you bet on sport, odds of 10 to 1 mean you bet £1 and win £10.
  • an overdraftbanks: if you spend more money than you have in your account, you go into overdraft. 
  • retrainlife-changing events: quit your job, decide to retrain and start a new career
  • stakesgambling: your stake is the amount you decide to gamble. If you gamble a lot, the stakes are high.
  • vowslife-changing event: when you get married, you and your husband / wife exchange vows
