Without reading the stories again, try to complete the sentences. Then check your ideas by looking at the expressions in bold in the texts.

- herd (= group of animals, e.g. cows, elephants, deer, antelope)
- put (If you put things into perspective, you take a realistic, objective view of a situation rather than being emotional about it, and making it more serious than it really is.)
- scenery (= landscape, natural features of the countryside; if it is desolate, it is empty with few features)
