Read the article on page 119. Work in pairs and discuss how the writer of the article might answer the questions in Exercise 1.

- Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, is very big – it produces 1,500 films a year (second only to India).
- It is successful, employs thousands of people and is worth $7 bn a year. The low budget approach has allowed it to grow quickly.
- Most films go straight to DVD because there are only 30 cinemas.
- Voodoo horror, gangster, crime, stories of poor people becoming rich, and domestic dramas
- Invasion 1897 is an important film.
- Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen is a famous director.
- He has made 200 feature films.
- The writer doesn’t really express a personal opinion. His early films followed the Nollywood pattern sounds quite negative, but the next comment (Imasuen’s recent films are more ambitious) is more positive.
