Question

Work in pairs. Discuss which speakers had these souvenirs, where each souvenir was from and how the speakers described them. Listen again and check your ideas.

  • an apron - speaker 3 – a present from a friend who had visited Lithuania; it’s beautiful, hand-woven, has a lovely, stripy pattern
  • a drink - speaker 1 – brought it back from Malta; it was made from prickly pears and was lovely – they finished it in about two days
  • a model - speaker 2 – it’s a plastic model of the Eiffel Tower; a present from one of his wife’s students
  • pannetone - speaker 1 – a present from an Italian neighbour; it was delicious
  • a paperweight - speaker 4 – bought it as a souvenir in Athens; it had an image of the Parthenon inside
  • a tie - speaker 2 – from one of his wife’s students; it had a picture of the Great Wall of China printed on it; it was horrible and bright
