Answer

  • Terrible jobs in the past included chimney sweeps (small boys used to climb up chimneys to clean them; now special tools do the job), fullers (people cleaned and finished newly woven cloth using human urine; the job is now done by machines and modern chemicals), or toshers (people who found things in sewage; no longer exists, though people in some countries do a similar job on rubbish tips).
  • A job where you risk injury: fireman, soldier, policeman, footballer
  • A job where you are exposed to chemicals or dirt: rubbish collector, labourer, factory workers
  • A job where you might die of boredom: civil servant, supermarket checkout, factory worker
