- for economic reasons – to get a job in a wealthier country with better employment possibilities
- to escape war, revolution or discrimination – as a refugee
- because you want to live with someone from that country – a boyfriend or girlfriend or family members
- to learn the language of that country or its culture
- to further your career by working in a country that offers opportunities in your chosen career
