Question
- Expand the following suggestions concerning ways to solve the problems of smog, racial discrimination and illiteracy into full sentences.
- In pairs, write supporting details and expected results for each suggestion.

a)
- One way to solve the problem of smog would be to install filters on (factory) chimneys.
- Another effective solution would be arranging multi-cultural events.
- Last but not least, parents should start reading stories to their children at a very young age.
b)
- In this way, harmful fumes could be removed and so fewer harmful chemicals escape into the atmosphere. As a result, the air would be less polluted.
- By doing this, people will be able to socialise with other people from different ethnic backgrounds and realise that all people are similar. As a result, people will become more tolerant towards ethnic minorities.
- In this way, children become familiar with books and think of reading as a positive experience. As a result, they will look forward to reading more as they grow up.
