Answer

Some people believe that people should only take part in sport in order to win. In my opinion, there are many reasons to take part in sport other than simply to win.

To start with, the main point of playing sport is to develop social skills. For example, being an effective member of a team requires cooperation, listening skills and a sense of responsibility.

Furthermore, the whole point of sport is to improve physical and mental health. For example, people who don’t exercise have problems with weight and illness.

On the other hand, some people argue that aiming to win teaches a person about competitiveness. This means that in order to be successful in today's world you need to be competitive. They forget, however, that this is not the main point of sport.

All in all, I personally believe that sport is about participating more than winning. Sport is about developing social skills and staying fit and healthy.
