Last year I went to La Tomatina. It is held every August in Buñol, Valencia. It is a unique festival that ends with a huge tomato fight.
The preparations started the day before when shopkeepers covered their shop windows with plastic. Some people greased a wooden pole and tied a ham to the top. They also help a paella cooking competition the night before.
On the actual day, trucks delivered loads of tomatoes into the town centre. Someone climbed up the pole and got the ham. Once they got it - the tomato fight began. The fight lasted for an hour and then the water trucks hosed the streets down. After that we went to music concerts and watched parades. In the evening, we watched amazing fireworks displays.
It was an incredible festival. Everyone had a great time.
