Answer

  1. competitive → want to win; addictive → can’t stop doing it / to be obsessed with it
  2. participant → takes part in the sport; spectator → watches the sport
  3. to win → to come first; to beat → to do better than someone else or another team, not necessarily to come first
  4. to take part in → to join in the sport or the competition; to train for → to prepare for the sport or the competition
  5. to be successful → to do well at something / others recognise that you do well in this area; to have a sense of achievement → a feeling inside you that you have finished / done well at something which was challenging
