  1. Find the adjectives from the box below in the article on page 22. Work in pairs and discuss what you think they mean. Use the sentences around the word to help you.
  2. All the adjectives from the box describe situations. How can you change the endings to make adjectives to describe feelings? Give examples.

a)

  1. fascinating → extremely interesting
  2. daunting → making you feel concerned that you might not be able to do / achieve what you want
  3. challenging → difficult in an interesting or enjoyable way
  4. petrifying → extremely scary / frightening, especially so that you cannot move or think
  5. annoying → making you feel slightly angry
  6. disgusting → extremely unpleasant and making you feel sick
  7. inspiring → giving people a feeling of excitement and a desire to do something great
  8. worrying → making you feel concerned / unhappy because you keep thinking about a problem or something bad in the future

b)

  • adjectives with -ed endings describe feelings → interested, amused, bored
  • adjectives with -ing endings describe situations / states → interesting, amusing, boring
