  1. Lightning Bolt is a play on words. In a storm, a bolt of lightning is very quick - Usain is very quick and his surname is Bolt.
  2. A talent for sprinting means he was very good at running very fast over short distances.
  3. He didn’t train very hard means that he didn’t practice very much for his races.
  4. He turned professional means he started sprinting as if it were a job.
  5. From strength to strength means he got better and better.
  6. Something he was born with means that Usain thinks that being fast is natural talent.
  7. Keep him focused means that his manager helped him to concentrate on his objectives.
  8. Smashed his own record means he beat his own record, running much faster than he had done before.
