  1. A sports stadium is a place where people go to watch sports and a leisure centre is a place where people go to do sports.
  2. A library is a place where you can borrow or consult books and a bookshop is a place where you can buy books.
  3. A restaurant is usually more expensive and provides good quality meals. A café is usually cheaper and sells mainly snacks and drinks.
  4. A bar is smaller, doesn’t have a dance floor and closes earlier. A nightclub has a dance floor and closes later.
  5. A hospital is a big building where patients stay and all kinds of medical practise takes place. A doctor's surgery serves a local area only and people go there to see a family doctor.
  6. People go to the cinema to watch films whereas they go to the theatre to see plays.
  7. At a museum, people can see exhibitions of all kinds, e.g. archeological remains or old books, whereas at an art gallery, people can only see different types of painting, photography or sculpture.
  8. A school is for children from four / five years old to eighteen years old. A college is a place of higher adult education. They often teach vocational courses.
  9. A bus station is where all the buses start and finish their routes and a bus stop is a place they stop on their routes to pick people up.
  10. A train station is where people can catch overground trains and a tube station is a place where people can catch underground trains in big cities.
