Work in pairs. Check you understand the underlined phrases below. Discuss the questions.

- have power over → be in a position of control over someone / something
- in positions of power → jobs with powerful responsibilities, e.g. politicians, heads of multinational companies, etc.
- economic power → power which countries have because of their economic situation
- special powers → powers that are not within their 'normal' powers
- comes to power → start being in a position of power (usually after an election)
- holds the power → be in a powerful position
