  1. The most important broadsheets are The Guardian, The Times and The Daily Telegraph, while the main tabloids are the Daily Mail, the Daily Express and The Sun.
  2. Some quality papers which have changed to the tabloid or 'compact' format are The Guardian, The Times and The Scotsman. The reason for this is that people can read them more easily, for example on the train.
  3. People who don't want to spend a lot of time reading newspapers.
  4. They usually focus on celebrity gossip, sports, holidays, horoscopes, and often provide special features such as games and free tickets.
  5. Higher social groups.
  6. They deal with politics, finance, economics, national and international affairs, culture and sports.
  7. Quality papers present news in a series of reliable reports about recent events.
  8. Popular papers concentrate on opinion rather than on content and they directly address the readers' emotions and instincts.
