Amelie and Steve waited seventeen years to get married because a letter Steve wrote to Amelie got lost behind the fireplace for ten years. During that time, they lost contact and each assumed the other had moved on. When the letter was eventually found and Amelie read it, a significant amount of time had already passed, but they reunited and eventually got married.
