  1. The two Maori traditions famous all over the world are tattoos (ta moko) and the haka.
  2. The Maori left Polynesia around 700 years ago.
  3. James Cook arrived in New Zealand in 1769.
  4. Approximately 50% of the Maori population died after the arrival of the Europeans.
  5. 'Ta moko' refers to the traditional Maori tattooing.
  6. The guide does not think that non-Maoris should get tattoos of Maori designs, as it would be offensive to the culture.
